If you take a trip down Highway 49 right now in California, you will be in for a treat. When driving through the rolling hills you may notice the normally green hills looks almost orange.

And then you get closer to those hills and notice something amazing...IT'S ALL POPPIES! Spring has come early and the California Poppies have taken over the Easter Sierra Foothills.
With Spring just getting underway, you better start planning your trip to catch all of the super blooms! This will highlight two sections of the Eastern Sierra Foothills along Highway 49.

Highway 49
If driving from Sonora going east on Highway 49 you will be in awe the entire drive as almost all of the rolling hills are covered with flowers and poppies. The first stop you would want to make is at 'Big Jackass Creek' (no I did not make this name up). This stop is a short fire road off of the highway that boast hills filled with poppies and flowers. The area used to be a mining operation, so if you notice the flowers growing in linear rows it is due to the mining!
Next stop you will want to make along Highway 49 is Hites Cove. This is a longer hike that takes you on a narrow dirt path across hills of poppies. It is an amazing hike with views of the rolling hills, poppy fields and the flowing river! This hike is a narrow path and steep slopes and is more popular so it is important to be careful when hiking it.
